Sofia Vergara so generously answered all of our burning questions about her her beauty and wellness routines, as well as her outlook on aging, in a cover story for People Magazine. The 51-year-old actress delved into beauty trends she wishes she hadn’t experimented with, how her perspective on wellness has transformed over the years, and bravely opened up about the anxious thoughts that keep her up at night.

On Aging…

Aging has brought the Modern Family star a mix of contentment and concerns. She told the outlet that she’s found comfort in the wisdom gained with age and is particularly grateful for the knowledge she’s obtained over the years. Vergara also mentioned she’s grown more indifferent to others’ opinions, a trait she said she’d had her whole life.

But time passing has also brought its worries. Vergara candidly shared the concerns that keep her up at night, ranging from personal to global issues: “People dying, family getting sick or aging horribly, world peace. I mean everything—at this age all we do is worry.”

On Beauty…

Believe it or not, the Griselda star wasn’t exempt from experimenting with bangs. When asked about beauty trends she regrets trying, she bluntly replied, “Bangs. I don’t think bangs look good on me.” She added that they “don’t look good on anyone” but backtracked to say that Heidi Klum is an exception.

Despite this, she occasionally considers cutting her hair shorter. “I always say, ‘Oh, I’m going to cut my hair.’ But then I end up not cutting it. In Latin America, I mean they used to tell you that once you hit 40, you’re not supposed to have this crazy long hair. So I’m always thinking like, ‘Is it time? Is it time to cut it?’ I don’t know, I don’t want to feel like old-fashioned [with] short hair.”

She was also generous in sharing her “unusual beauty habit” of washing her hair daily. “I mean, unless I’m sick or I have to catch a plane at 3 in the morning, then I don’t have time,” she explained. “But I wash my hair every day. Everybody always told me it’s going to ruin your hair, and it never has.”

On Wellness…

Vergara has developed a newfound appreciation for getting a good night’s rest, telling that outlet that she “takes sleep seriously now.” Vergara explains: “Before, I could survive on six hours, now I know that I don’t look good if I don’t sleep more. If I have a photo shoot, I try to wake up a little bit earlier because you’re puffier, you need some more time. Our job as actors, it’s not like, put your glasses on, and go pick up your kid at school or go and sit in a desk. You have to be camera-ready and do your job. But it takes longer now that I’m older.”

As for exercise, she keeps it simple yet consistent. “I have bad knees, so I’ve never been really into crazy workouts,” she said. “I’ve worked out kind of like an older person my whole life,” adding that she sticks to low-impact strength training. “I do it often because I can’t do spinning or any of those sexy exercises now,” she explained, which might just be the actress’s most Vergara-esque comment of the whole interview.
